Author Norton Juster tells us “Expect everything so that nothing comes unexpected” and that’s how I’m feeling as I embark on the Msc in applied e-learning.  I expect that the course will present a variety of challenges to me at different times.  As the initial challenges of starting something new begin to fade I expect that they will be replaced with further challenges as I get to grips with the course itself.  My main expectation for the Msc is that it will take my current knowledge on the subject of e-learning and expand it so that I am aware of the current trends in e-learning and how best they can be used to engage our learners and provide more effective training.    In the past decisions regarding training interventions have been made based on experience, in the future I expect that the decisions that I take will be more informed as a result of the combination of the Msc and my professional experience.  I also expect that it will enlighten me as to why previous training interventions were not as successful as they might have been. My final expectation as I get to know my fellow students is that they may be able to help me with the training I provide as I hope I will be able to help them.   In other courses that I have completed I have built and maintained friendships with some of the students.  These friendships have lasted long after the course has finished and we still contact each other from time to time if we hear of something new or something that may be of interest to the group.  My expectation is that the students I meet through the Msc will continue to share their expertise and information long after the course is completed.
